Ellen Jewett was born in Markham Ontario and raised among snails. She
took to shaping three dimensional forms at a young age and has been
prolific ever since. Ellen generally chooses to outsource her ideas, looking
to the knowledge and natural phenomena that inspires her. To Ellen
sculpting has always been about life and ideas; biological narratives or
cultural statements.

In 2007 Ellen completed her undergraduate education with an honors
degree in Biological Anthropology and Visual Art from McMaster University.
Creatures from El was in full swing by the time Ellen graduated from post
secondary and took off as her full time career.

When working in her studio Ellen enjoys listening to college lectures and
audio books. She finds this immersion in thought and ideas helps create the
depth of spontaneity in her sculptural narratives.

In her spare time Ellen enjoys being in nature; hiking, biking and exploring.
She also practices Yoga and enjoys being in the presence of her family and
friends while drinking lots of coffee. Ellen has always been active in animal
rescue. Currently, in addition to being an artist, she works as a dog trainer,
using positive reinforcement to rehabilitate canines for a better life. Ellen
also volinteers as a crisis counsellor with a local women's shelter and raises
vegetables as a member of an organic farm co-opt.
